I’m very pleased to let you know that from this Sunday (July 12th), we shall be introducing informal racing back to NBYC.
This is another move in the right direction for NBYC, but as I’m sure you understand, comes with certain restrictions. I ask you to work with us and be understanding of the decisions we have to make in relation to this.
But we can start racing again so let us be positive about that!
At the same time, we can slowly and cautiously begin to welcome training events back to NBYC by way of a reduced programme.
As we continue our journey through this pandemic, we should perhaps take time to appreciate how lucky we are to have this long awaited opportunity to return to the surroundings at NBYC. We should also think of those whose lives have been so affected by Covid-19.
Many have sadly lost friends and relatives. We applaud and thank the doctors, nurses and support staff who have worked tirelessly and selflessly for these last few months – some of those we’re proud to know as members of NBYC. And without the battalion of shop workers, delivery drivers and other many other key service workers who continued to work during lockdown, our lives would have been much tougher.
The Flag Officers and Committee members have been working extremely hard behind the scenes, ably supported by Peter McGeown our Club Manager, to ensure we were ready to reopen/restart club life when it became possible to do so. I would personally like to take this opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of them for all their efforts.
We’re not through this yet by any means and the threat of a second spike hangs over us. But if we continue to follow the guidance issued by the government, are sensible and show some good old common sense, we will hopefully keep moving in the right direction!
The RYA guidance is “to be cautious and considerate” – that’s a good place to start.
