NBYC Update – Tier 2

In response to the most recent guidance about Norfolk moving into Tier 2 we are delighted that NBYC will reopen on 2nd December.

Slipways will be open and members may reach, attend to their boats, and sail. Unfortunately “Teal” is presently out for winter maintenance and therefore will not be available. The clubhouse will be closed, except for access to toilets, but the Office will be open for winter hours.

Discussions are ongoing about a return to Saturday training, Social sailing, and Sunday racing. Members will be informed about what is available as soon as it is organised.
The most recent RYA guidance is clear and helpful and we recommend you read this:
However the Broads Authority have yet to revise their current guidance although we do not anticipate it will be materially different.

In response to the announcement by the Prime Minister, made on the 30th Oct, we find ourselves having to close the clubhouse from midnight on the 4th November until the 2nd December. The remaining racing and training calendar for 2020 is cancelled, but will resume as soon as practicable. The club crane will be available, as will Teal for those wishing to reach boats on swinging moorings. Members are reminded to adhere to the hygiene protocols currently in place. We are seeking clarification from the relevant authorities as to whether boats may be moved to winter storage elsewhere after the closure and will advise members as soon as possible. Those wishing to store boats on trailers in the top field may do so until the restrictions are lifted.
The Management Committee want to assure you that NBYC will be offering as full and as exciting a programme of racing and social activity in 2021 as will be possible and much work has already been done to ensure this will be the case.

Abandoned Boats & Trailers

We have now completed the top field and dinghy park audits. A significant number items remain unknown to the club and we would ask again that any person who has property on club premises not known to the office to make contact at their earliest opportunity.

Thank you to those who responded to our previous requests. We now move to the implementation of Rule 18 of the NBYC Constitution with regard to unpaid fees or abandoned boats etc (details here).

This means that items whose ownership is unknown, or with outstanding fees, will be clearly marked as such during the week beginning the 1st Dec. They will be disposed of by public auction after at least a further 90 days. Should a person wish to claim ownership of any marked item after 1st Dec they will be required produce written evidence of title and settle any outstanding fees and expenses.

Extended Season Programme

As you know and as requested by you, the racing season has been extended until 13th December. It will follow a similar format to our current programme, with dinghies racing from 1100hrs until 1300hrs and keelboats 1300hrs until 1500hrs. We still need volunteer Race Officers and Safety Boat helms. If you’d like to volunteer for a duty, you can do so directly on DutyMan. If you’ve forgotten your login details, just email us at and we’ll send you a link.

WebCollect – Did you receive the email?

On Friday afternoon we sent you an email detailing the exciting developments on our WebCollect system. If you haven’t seen the email, please check your Junk folders as it might have filed itself in there (If it did, add to your contact list to stop it happening again). If after looking in there you still can’t find it please let us know and we will check that we have the correct email address for you.

Covid update 26th September 2020

You will be aware that the change in COVID-19 regulations in force from Thursday 24th September have yet further implications for clubhouse and catering arrangements at NBYC.

Face Coverings
Face coverings must be worn when inside the clubhouse, including the toilets.
The exception to this is when a member is seated in the clubhouse and consuming food or drink.

Ordering Food & Drink
As we are licensed premises we are no longer allowed to serve you from the hatch, galley or bar and all food and drink must now be ordered and served to you at a table, both inside and outside.
We have explored all possible alternatives for making the service as simple as possible and drawn on the advice of many including the District Council, but it is clear there is no other option.

We will have staff, front of house to take your order, serve you and take your payment (contactless payment would be preferred if possible.) but please understand that there may be service delays while we work around this.

‘Rule of 6’
Please also remember that the “Rule of 6” should continue to be followed.

Track & Trace
On a more positive note, it is now easier to meet the requirement to book into the club by using the NHS Covid-19 Track and Trace App.  Those using the app on their smartphones simply scan the QR Code on display around the clubhouse at entrances to the Clubhouse and Office. View instructions on how to download the app HERE.

These changes are being implemented to ensure we comply with the new legislation. It’s the last thing we wish to do but please help us by following them as ultimately, failure to do so would leave us with no option other than to close the bar and catering facility at NBYC until next season.

Thank you again for your continued support and understanding.

Season Extended!

We’re pleased to announce that we shall be extending the season until Sunday December 13th.

This is to allow you to make as much use of your membership as is possible.
More details to follow!
